A late 18th century, low, two panel Japanese screen long and narrow in proportion, its surface covered in gold leaf on paper laid in a soft grid of squares. Over time the leaf has softened and deepened, and the surface is warm and uneven, with shifting tones of gold and bronze. A slim black lacquered frame holds it in place.
Its shape sits somewhere between screen and horizontal artwork. It can be placed on a shelf, console or hung on the wall. The reverse is stencilled in a dense, radiating pattern.
