"Many of Italy’s iconic buildings are constructed from travertine, a material deeply embedded in the country’s history. When I began working with this stone, I became aware of the impact of its extraction. Quarrying leaves lasting scars on mountains, and once the material is gone, it is gone forever. This piece is a memory of a mountain that once existed.

"The table was sculpted together with Vitaliano Marsotto, a fourth-generation craftsperson at Marsotto. He passed away shortly after we completed the work. A maestro of stone, his practice centred on “marble paintings” made using the ancient technique of Commesso Fiorentino—the art of assembling cut pieces of stone into intricate compositions for furniture and architecture"
