This little neighbourhood scene uses a beautiful color palette. Signed in verso by the Scottish artist, Alan Stenhouse Gourley (1900-1991).
Most probably from the 1930's when Gourley taught at the Johannesburgh Technical College, South Africa.
Gourley was an avid traveller and painted frequently en plein air in Spain, Morocco, Malta and Singapore.
He studied at Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris (1938-1940) and the Slade School of Art (1945). He was president of the Royal Society for Oil a Painting (ROI) during the 60s.
