A modernist pendant light designed by the functionalist architect Sven Markelius (1889–1972) in the mid 1930s. With its large suspended reflector the ceiling lamp throws a wide, even and soft downward light. Lacquered sheet metal in the original soft terracotta hue. The lamp can still be seen in public buildings across Sweden including the swimming pool, Högdalens Simhall in Stockholm.

Sven Markelius was an eminent Swedish architect known for endorsing Swedish modernism and the functionalism throughout his career. His designs for the Helsingborg Podium were a marked movement away from Classicism to a more Functionalist aspect, inspired broadly by the thoughts of Le Corbusier.  He studied at the Institute of Technology and the Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm and opened his first architecture office in 1915, achieving international recognition in 1939 with his design for the Swedish Pavilion for the New York's World Fair. His furniture designs were revolutionary, including the Orchestra Chair designed in 1931, the first stackable chair.
