Hopeakuu necklace Tapio Wirkkala

4 500 SEK

A Silver Moon or Hopeakuu necklace in sterling silver 925 designed by the Finnish father figure of applied arts, Tapio Wirkkala (1915-1985). A wonderful example of the themes of nature and geometry that inspired much of Wirkkala's work. The repeated sphere has a kinetic element allowing the rings in sterling silver to move independently of each-other.

Wirkkala's versatile designs rose to fame during the Finnish industrial design triennial fairs of 1951 and 1954 in Milan. Best known as a glass designer, Wirkkala was a versatile designer not limited by scale, material or convention and he approached his work with an almost scientific and functionalist approach. A key element of Wirkkala's design ethos was observing the geometric shapes derived from nature; from leaves, the swirls of seashells, the shapes of birds or fish, or more distant observations such as ice formations and the movements of water. His artworks and objects d'art have been exhibited in the most important museums worldwide.
