A rocking foot stool 'Kungapallen' designed by Erik Lundqvist and manufactured by Lyckebo-Möbler, Sweden in the 1940s. Birch wood frame and updated with new upholstery in grey Gotland sheepskin by Helena Engström.

A self taught and hobby designer and carpenter, Erik Lundqvist found fame after being commissioned by the Swedish King Gustav VI to make a foot stool for Queen Louise. The Queen was so pleased with her foot stool she ordered one for the King in return.  Sounds like a fairytale but in fact a true one and recounted by Margaretha Rosén, daughter of Erik Lundqvist.

The Foot stool was inspired by a hollowed-out log seen at auction. Erik set out to design a foot-stool that was so versatile it could be used regardless of the height of the chair or sofa. His wife sewed the original artificial leather covering and he had moulds made where he could press layers of birch wood veneer into the shape.
