An exceptional ceramic sculpture by the Italian ceramicist Marcello Fantoni (1915-2011).
An abstract ceramic form in off-white glaze on black with splashes of orange, yellow and gold. Mounted on an original cement stand made by the artist.
Born in Florence, Fantoni was a multi disciplinary artist. He opened the Fantoni Ceramics Studio in 1936 dedicating his work to traditional Italian ceramic techniques with a modernist slant. Described as a 'master of beauty'. There are clear influences of Lucio Fontana running through his work.
His work is represented at the The Metropolitan Museum of Art New York, The V&A in London, Museum of Modern Art of Tokyo and Kyoto and The National Museum of Bargello Florence, Italy.
