Fulham Pottery Pleated Vase

14 500 SEK

A stunning piece of Fulham Pottery, circa 1930s with a curved pleated body, round 'hands on the hip' handles, undulating body, an oval footed base and finished unglazed. Hand-pressed white Devon clay and glazed on the inside only to ensure water tightness. The outside was left unglazed so the vases could be painted to match a clients room!

Designed by William J Marriner in 1936/37 for the Alber Ware range for Fulham Pottery, London. Mariner was a long time employee working alongside Florence Steadfast who was designing her friend, Constance Spry, infamous pieces. The vase is known as design F (for Fulham) M (for Marriner) and C (Shape C).  The London Fulham Factory closed in 1956 when the Clean Air Act was issued by the then UK government forcing the factory, who fired their kilns with coal, to close.

Some small marks from age but great condition. No chips.

Stamped 'Fulham Pottery, Made in England'.  Inscribed F.M.C
