Entitled 'Fabeldjur', meaning mystical beast in Swedish this is primitive biomorphic sculpture with arbitary holes and hollows creating a wonderful form by the Swedish artist and designer Bertil Hugo Lundgren (1934-2020).  Most known for designing the Hållfast series for the Swedish porcelain company, Rörstrand where he worked between 1974-1979. His objects have been commissioned for many public sculptures and exhibited at galleries and art schools around Gothenberg, Sweden.

This wonderful sculpture feels like an escapist depiction of bones that is more abstract than realist in shape. Reminiscent of Henry Moore and his fascination and studies of stones, bones and shells;  'Bones have a marvellous structural strength and a hard tenseness of form, subtle transition of one shape into the next and a great variety in section (Henry Moore, Catalougue of an exhibition at the Tate Gallery, 1968).

Swedish, signed and dated 'Bertil Lundgren, Goteborg, Fabeldjur'.  Limited edition of 2/30. Dated 1971. Wood plinth.
