Timo Sarpaneva Finlandia 1960s
3 500 SEK
Timo Sarpaneva (1926-2006) was one of Finland's most innovative glassmakers of the 20th Century.
Working during a hugely influential period of Finnish design and craftmanship, Timo pioneered new techniques of glass blowing.
He worked for Iittala from the 1950s creating their logo and is responsible for many of their classic designs still in production today.
This substantial vase was from his 'Finlandia 3356' series for Iittala during the 1960s. He pioneered a technique of using wooden moulds eliminating the water used to prevent the wood moulds from burning. As a result, the molten glass burnt and charred the moulds creating these unique patterns and forms on the glass. Creating these incredible and beautiful glass sculptures.
A work of art in glass blowing.
