An abstract oil composition in all the shades of grey signed by Gerhard Nordström (1925 - 2019).
Painted with saturated, creamy pigments and hints of exposed oil board.

Possibly an earlier piece from the 1950s/60s when Gerhard was experimenting with a more cubist and abstract form.
In the 60s and 70s he went on to use his art as a direct criticism of the Vietnam war and to depict it's meaningless violence.
His series, 'Sommaren 1970' shows the horrors and violence of the war contrasted against an idyllic Swedish landscape.
The series is considered as some of the most important in Swedish 20th c. art.

Nordström grew up in the South of Sweden, living most of his life just outside Ystad.
He continued to paint with a strong social and poiltical message often with a fierce environmental rhetoric.
Nordstöm studied at Skånska Målarskolan (1940 - 1942) and at the Kungliga Konsthögskolan in Stockholm (1943–1949).

Signature scraped into the paint.  Beautifully re-framed in an oak box frame at Bergewall Ramar, Stockholm.
