Sketch by Albert Marquet

A wonderful lithograph model sketch by the French Fauvist artist Albert Marquet (1875-1947).

A lifelong friend of Henri Matisse, Albert Marquet was a painter associated with the Fauvist movement.  Born in Bordeaux, Marquet moved to Paris in 1892 to study at 'École des Arts Decoratifs' where he met and was roommates with Matisse. He was best known for his vivid coloured landscapes and cityscapes, typical of the Fauvist movement. However between 1910 and 1919 he made a a series of portraits studying nudes and lesbian lovers at Parisian brothels that are believed to have inspired his later  works; 'La Femme Blonde' 1919 (Musée National d'Art Moderne, Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris), 'Nude against the Light', 1909 (Musée des Beaux-Arts de Bordeaux) and 'Nude on a Divan', 1912 (Musée National d'Art Moderne, Paris.

Framed in white washed oak at Bergewall Ramar, Stockholm.
