Abstract Composition Bengt Nordqvist 1959
12 000 SEK
A cubist semi abstract oil on canvas with a great colour palette. Simple geometric shapes are interlocked to create a fragmented form and structure to this piece.
Originally Bengt Nordqvist (1917-2012) trained as classical violinist. He began his studies in art in 1946-1948 at Hovedskous painting school in Gothenburg and continued in Paris, finally settling in Rome in 1956.
He started as a "Göteborgskolorist" (a group of art critics) with landscape painting and still-life but around 1952 moved into planometric and semi-abstract motifs relating to surrealism.
The artist appears undecided on the orientation as the signature on verso lays horizontal with the date '1957' crossed through. Perhaps the year he started to paint the piece?
Swedish. Signed & dated 1959
Oil on canvas with beautiful stretches. In an artists wood frame.
There is a slight loss of paint and a dent on the frame on the top left. Both not distracting.
